it is probably set to hibernate after man left for a particular period of time. check power option in ctrl panel lower than the power schemes tab (win XP). some place similar on window vista
Go to control panel, performance and continuation and then power option. You can sort it in within.
go into the power scheme via the control pannel and change the time out mode form shutdown to hibinate or summat else!
While on the desktop,



Right click and select Properties



Then select Screensaver



Then select Power



Then use the provided window to adjust how your computer is timed to shut off the sturdy drive, monitor, etc
